Facebook Conversion Tracking has changed — we have all the Intel

This is a "techie" blog, written for those of you that are managing your own Facebook Ad Campaigns. If you are not doing Facebook advertising (shame on you!), then this article isn't for you — next week's blog will be less complicated, I promise.

Of course, if you want a Facebook ad campaign (they are great for lead generation) and don't want to get involved in all that creating a great, effective campaign requires, let DriveProfit manage the tech and details, delivering an effective, lead generating program for you! Drop us an email at info@driveprofit.com if you'd like to discuss the many options we offer to help you become a social media star.

So, for all you do-it-yourselfers here is the nitty-gritty:

When posting a Facebook Campaign for your limo business, you should be using Facebook's Conversion Tracking tools.  If you haven't been, now is a good time to start.  And, if you have, then you know that in February 2017 Facebook has changed things a bit.

Posting a campaign can be an easy process, but it will cost you a few pennies, so it makes sense to monitor if what you are posting is working.  The Facebook in-house tools help you to manage and track, so you can get the best out of Facebook for your operation.

Facebook's tracking tools have not just changed but been phased out, so you will need to do a few things in order to get back on track. (forgive the pun)

There is the Standard Events option and there is the Custom Events, both which need to be kept track of, depending on which you choose.  You need to set up a new conversion pixel, in order to continue enjoying these features from Facebook.

Custom Conversions

The custom conversion is the easiest, and there is no re-coding or modifications of settings, which we know can have you pulling out your hair.  This is in Facebook Ad Managers and utilizes the URL's of your already tracked pages.  See below on how to get this working again.

Standard Events

Here specific code is necessary and can track up to nine actions, but don't worry, your limo business brain will be able to do this.

Here are the steps to follow to get your tracking tools in place.

1. Installation of the New Facebook Pixel

Go to Ad Managers in Facebook.

Click on the Facebook Pixel button.

Click on "Create a Pixel".

Follow the prompts to create and install the code.

You have now installed the pixel on all your pages of your site.

2. Standard Events Actions to Select

Standard Events Actions requires code, so follow this procedure carefully:

  • View Cart
  • Search
  • Add to Card
  • Add to Wishlist
  • Initiate Checkout
  • Add Payment Info
  • Purchase
  • Lead
  • Complete Registration

This way you can see what your visitors are up to on your site.

Simply go to Ads Manager, All Tools, and Pixels, which is under the Assets menu.

3. Conversion Code Installation on webpage

Codes can be hard to work with, and we don't expect you to be a rockstar running your limo business, as well as being a tech head, so if you are not sure about copying and pasting the conversion code into your site's tags, drop us an email at info@driveprofit.com and we will be happy to give you a hand with it — no charge.

4. Facebook Pixel Helper Download

This download is essential in order to make sure your system for tracking is working properly.  The Pixel Helper is an extension of Google Chrome and here you can test your pages.

5. Custom Conversions Monitored

For Custom Conversions option, simply go to "Custom Conversions" under "Measure and Report" in the Ads Manager tab.  All the categories and events are here to choose from.

6. Management of Columns in Facebook Ads Manager

Columns are important and it is here where you can manage and monitor your conversions.  As a limo business owner, you want to know which ads and posts are working well, and which are not.  The columns allow you to track this.

Go to Ads Manager tab again, select "Columns", click on "Customize Columns" and the system will give you prompts to follow and complete.

Before you know it, you will be up and running in the new Facebook Conversion Tracking system, and will be able to track your ROI like a pro.  Of course, as I said earlier, we can take care of all the technical stuff for you.

Good Luck!
