Oops. You've just received an invoice for $500.00 or more from a company that you have never heard of. They are demanding payment because you used a photo on your website or in social media that was copyrighted.
When we first started out in this business 16 years ago, DriveProfit received a few of these and ended up paying for our mistakes. It was a lesson learned and, thankfully, not something we have had to deal with in many, many years.
Of course, we do marketing all the time and now know the rules of the road quite well. Unfortunately, every six weeks or so, I get a call from someone that is looking for help — they used a copyrighted image.
There is really nothing you can do other than pay for your mistake. So, don't make the mistake in the first place. Use a company like DriveProfit that always uses licensed images with the appropriate permissions in any graphics we produce for our clients.
If you are not ready to use a professional and still want to do it yourself, here is a really good article on "What Not To Do" when you are dealing with stock photography. We hope this article from Social Media Examiner helps you stay out of trouble!
